Tea Party Wedding Inspiration

· Trends

I love the Tea Party wedding trend, and even though it has been around for a few years now, each year it evolves slightly as Brides put their own spin on it and introduce new ideas.  I have pinned loads of ideas onto our Pinterest page (here is the link if you don’t already follow us!) and my favourites are rounded up below!

Mismatched Crockery & Vintage Tablescapes

How you dress your tables will really determine the atmosphere for your reception – so whether you go for a Mad Hatter style or pretty English tea party, the best place to start is probably your local charity shops to find quaint teapots, plates, vases and teacups.  If you need crockery on a larger scale, there are companies that have done all this hard work for you and will hire out anything from tea sets to larger staging props.    See the links at the bottom of this article.

Handmade Signs and Labels

Think Alice in Wonderland ‘Eat Me’ & ‘Drink Me’ labels or wooden hand painted signs directing your guests to all the lovely treats in store for them.  A good free resource are wooden pallets which most businesses will be more than happy for you to come and take off their hands as they often have to pay to dispose of them!  Just make sure you roughly sand the wood down and remove any nails so people don’t snag their frocks on them!

Whether you buy it or make it, the possibilities to decorate your venue with pretty flags are endless!  From paper doilies to tissue pom poms or hand sewn flags.  Visit your local haberdashery shop to see if they run workshops that you can learn the basics and then hold a sewing party to get your friends, maids and family to all help make a couple of metres each!

You can always use this a theme throughout your wedding stationery too.

Sandwiches & Scones

There are so many options you can go for to feed your guests, but the most traditional would be platters of crustless sandwiches and scones with jam and cream.  You can add to the mix with colourful macarons, mini pasties & pies, individual salad pots and slices of your favourite cake.  I absolutely adore the idea of these mini BLT sandwiches!

Floral Dresses

I have lusted after Claire Pettibone’s floral wedding dresses for years and it is a style that more and more designers and Brides are embracing.  Whether you choose a fully embroidered gown or just a subtle accent along the hem there is no doubt that these are the perfect dresses for a summer tea party!  Choose plain coloured dresses for your maids that complement the same shades.

Summer Flowers

The floral displays will really set the tone for your decor, so choose seasonal summer blooms, arranged in a mix of vintage containers, bottles, jars, teapots and watering cans.   Hang flowers from the ceiling or window frames in small bottles, bird cages or test tubes to really give the room a wow factor.

Fancy Favours

I love these cute tea cups planted with mini succulent plants – mixing the tea party and the greenery trend in one setting!  These would definitely make a gift that any of your guests would be happy to take home!

Love Lola

Another favour fit for a tea party are mini jars of jam printed with cute labels ‘Spread the Love’ or ‘Love is Sweet’.  You can either buy these in bulk ready made or if you really want to make it personal, pick the fruit and make the jam yourself!
