Lorraine and Mark were married at St Luke’s Church on the 14th May 2011 after being friends since childhood: “We met at the age of seven when we both joined Onchan Silver band. We sat next to each other as we both played tenor horn and were friends for many years before getting together three years ago. Mark proposed at one of our favourite spots while walking our dog.”
“We had great fun planning our wedding, we organised it all ourselves and we tried to make everything as personal as possible”
Lorraine arrived at the church in a classic Mini (Mark owns a Mini and the boys all wore Mini cufflinks) and walked down the aisle to her favourite piece of music ‘Pavane’ which she plays solo on her tenor horn.
Her brother played music during the ceremony and Onchan Silver Band then formed a guard of honour for the couple as they left the church.
Their family and friends decorated the inside of the church with flowers and bunting and arranged for the florist to create an archway of flowers over the Church door as a surprise.
The theme of the wedding was shared between music, to signify how the couple met and Manx tartan. Lorraine’s favourite colour green fitted perfectly in with the colours of the tartan and was brought out with the Bridesmaids dresses and the tablecloths.
When the newlyweds arrived at the Mount Murray for the reception, Lorraine’s dogs were there to greet the couple and the guests were wowed by the creativity of the Groom who made all the stationery for the reception, including the table plan, invitations and table names : “the table names were pieces (of music) that were special to us and the entertainment was provided by ‘Retrospect’ who Mark has played with in the past”
Mark obviously inherits his creativity from his Mum who made the cake and cake topper!
