Wonderful Wedding Workshops!

I have noticed, from the Real Weddings we get sent and with all the Brides and Grooms we chat to every week, people like to try their hand at DIY for their weddings…. whether it is the invites, cakes, flowers, or room decor – it helps to bring a touch of their personality to their day as well as possibly saving them a bit of money.

In this post, I have rounded up some of my favourite ideas for wedding themed workshops from talented local wedding suppliers across the Island – to be honest, even if you’re not getting married or just want a fun alternative for your Hen or Stag night they sound like great fun!

Oh, My Pen & Press – You may have seen our recent article shouting about the Modern Calligraphy workshops that Emma has scheduled for 11th November.  This would be a great place to start if you fancy having a go at making any of your own stationery with a touch of elegant handwriting.  I am actually booked onto this workshop so will be sure to report back with the full details!

The Flower Studio have just released their Autumn and Winter workshop timetable where you can learn to make seasonal items such a Christmas wreaths and centrepieces.  Once you have learnt the basic techniques there is nothing to say you couldn’t adapt them to fit in with your wedding theme.  Heidi also runs bespoke Hen party workshops and 1 to 1 tutorials for more complicated floral designs.

Kim Gee Studio – You may be familiar with Kim as the organiser of the increasingly popular Isle of Man Drawing Club which is held monthly at The British.  She has now developed this idea to create bespoke Hen Party evenings.  She can either bring the workshop to your home or help you organise a venue, and each evening will be tailored individually to include fun warm up drawing exercises and then Life Drawing with a male or female model!  She can also include more traditional hen party games and of course, there will be breaks for drinks and refreshments!

Butterfingers – Perhaps you are confident in baking a cake but need a bit of help with the decoration side of things?  Aimee from Butterfingers can arrange a 1 on 1 cake decorating course to show you some of the techniques and tricks of the trade that she uses for her stunning creations.

Taylor Made Cakes – Elaine offers cupcake or biscuit making workshops – the cupcakes would make a lovely alternative to the traditional wedding cake or you could make biscuits for your favours?  Or just book it as a hen or stag party to have some fun with no pressure of what you make on the day!

Lovely Greens – Another idea for favours, thank you gifts or just an afternoon out with your friends is Tanya’s popular soap making classes.  In each class, you make 10-12 bars of soap using pure oils, natural colours and fragrances, and as you will be guided through each step you will be able to make more in the comfort of your own home at a later date.

The Cook Shack in Bride are happy to host your hen party with a cookery class…. but this isn’t just turning up and learning how to make a dish!  On arrival you will be served with tapas, Pimms or Prosecco, then you will cook your dishes, all tailored to take into consideration dietary requirements and allergies.  Then you get to taste your creations, followed by pudding and the option of relaxing in a hot tub!  They are already booked up until February 2018 but would love you to get in touch!

Yarny Grainne – Another that I have personally attended and can highly recommend is Grainne’s crochet workshops.  Her work was recently featured in Ruby & Lukasz’s Crazy Cat Wedding  but if you want a simpler design to attempt she can cater to all abilities.

lewislewis Cocktail experiences would make a great Hen or Stag party and could even help you choose a signature cocktail to include on your wedding day. Your personal bartender will provide a brief history of cocktails, bartending and talk you through the tools you are going to be using; before guiding you through the making of three classic drinks – which you’ll then get the opportunity to get up and make!

If you are a local business that runs a workshop that you think should be on this list,  or have enjoyed any of these experiences and would like to share with us please get in touch!
