Lauren & Peter’s Romantic Candlelit Wedding

When Lauren & Peter Kennaugh started planning their wedding, they knew exactly what they wanted their day to be – stylish, elegant and romantic.  The wait for them to return from their honeymoon has seemed like an eternity, but we finally caught up with beautiful Bride Lauren to tell us all about their wedding day.

How did you both meet and what was the proposal like?

We met in 2012 when our paths kept crossing out and about on the Island and eventually we started spending more and more time together.  It was New Years Eve 2013 and we had gone out for lunch in Sulby with my then 3-year-old son Grayson. After lunch we went down to a little river area by the Claddaghs and Grayson handed me a ring. I really didn’t click what was going on so I gave the ring back to Pete!  Then Pete got down on one knee, but I still thought he was just winding me up! I eventually said yes and that night we went out and celebrated with friends and family.

What made the Villa Marina your perfect choice of venue for the ceremony and reception?

We wanted a ceremony room that was a blank canvas so we could make it exactly how we imagined, and we also needed a venue big enough for all our guests. We also loved the Royal Hall because of how much lighting and effects we could have the create the mood we wanted.

Did you have Hen and Stag parties?

We both had a Hen and Stag party on Island and also both had one off-Island too. I had a Hen party in Ibiza with 11 of my closest friends and had the time of our lives, we laughed for 4 days and it was perfect! The boys headed to Las Vegas for the Stag and had the most amazing week away.

Who designed your fabulous dress?

I had my dress made by the amazing Kate at The Bridal House in Ramsey. I knew exactly what I wanted so together we came up with a drawing and picked the fabrics we both thought would be best and took it from there. Kate was completely amazing and my dress was exactly what I wanted.

What did your Bridesmaids wear?

The bridesmaids wore lovely soft grey multiway dresses which were amazing as all of them could pick a style they liked and that suited them.

What about the men?

Pete had an amazing Tom Ford suit that Kate from The Bridal House tailored for him perfectly. Our two boys Grayson and Axel had matching suits to Pete, and looked completely adorable! We bought our 7 groomsmen grey suits from Reiss so they matched the bridesmaids.

Pete and I both bought Christian Louboutin shoes for the day, and we loved having matching red soles.

Where did you get your wedding rings from?

Our rings were from Wilkins, mine matched the band of my engagement ring so that was an easy choice, and Pete wanted a very traditional gold wedding band.

Tell us about your flowers…

I carried a bouquet of white David Austin Roses, I have never smelt a flower as amazing! My bridesmaids had bouquets of white roses too tied with lovely ribbon, they were so simple and elegant.

On the tables and at the start of the aisle we had arrangements of white flowers and some greenery, they were completely as we’d hoped and Heidi from The Flower Studio did such an amazing job!

How did you decorate the Ceremony and Reception rooms?

Our reception room was exactly what we had dreamed of: lights, lots of lights, candles and white flowers.  We had a mirrored dance floor in the centre of the room which reflected all the fairy lights we had draped from the centre of the ceiling.

Sarah from Taylor Made Events dressed the room incredibly. Pete had said to her, ‘When you think there are enough fairy lights, add some more!’ and she got it perfect!  Sarah completely made our wedding day and it wouldn’t have been the day it was without her. She made everything so stress free for us even on the day taking control of anything and everything so that we didn’t have to.

What was your cake like?

We had a 4 tier cake: carrot cake, victoria sponge, and 2 chocolate fudge tiers. It was iced plain white and we had lovely real white roses between each tier and on the top.

What was the most emotional part of the day?

For me, it was Pete’s speech, it made me totally sob! For Pete, it was that moment waiting at the top of the aisle and then seeing me arrive. Everything we had waited for was finally happening and he shed a good few tears.

What was the most romantic part of the day?

Saying our own vows – we were so happy we decided to write them ourselves, they were so personal to us. And also our first dance, we had a singer singing it live and we had been looking forward to that moment for so long, and we were so absorbed in the moment.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

At the end of the ceremony, the lovely registrar was trying to give us the marriage certificate but our leaving song came on and it was such a happy moment, we both started clapping and dancing and all of a sudden everyone had joined in and we were off!

What was your best idea?

Having someone singing live for our first dance.

If you could do it all again, would you change anything?

Nope! We had the time of our lives that day and were so happy with every decision we had made.

What is the best piece of advice you can give to someone planning their wedding?

Have fun! Don’t try and please everyone, because you never will no matter how hard you try. Make sure you do things you enjoy, play the music you love, eat the food you love. It’s about marrying the love of your life, so make the day about that and you two!
