Hannah & Chris were married in May 2015 in St Peter’s Church in Onchan and held their reception in the Royal Hall at the Villa Marina. When their photographer Shan Fisher sent me the photos from their wedding I fell in love with the elegant style of their day and knew we had to feature it on My Manx Wedding.
Hannah tells us more about their beautiful wedding…
How did Chris propose to you?
It was on holiday at Disney World in Florida – already the best 2 weeks ever even if we hadn’t got engaged! Chris hired a private hot air balloon at sunrise and proposed whilst in the hot air balloon – it was just perfect. I was completely shocked and not expecting it at all!
Where did you find your wedding dress and how did you feel when you first tried it on?
I wore a relaxed trumpet taffeta gown, with off the shoulder sweetheart neckline and sequin and lace detail by Sophia Tolli. It was in Bride by Swarbrick’s in Middleton, Manchester and it made me feel just like a Disney Princess.
Did you wear any accessories?
My full crystal princess tiara was also from Bridal Swarbrick’s, my shoes were plain silk ivory and the jewellery was from Tiffany’s.
What did Chris wear and where did he buy/hire it?
He wore charcoal grey tails with pin-stripe trousers and Tiffany blue tie and accessories to match the bridesmaids, from Jonathan Daniels. He looked incredibly handsome.
How many Bridesmaids did you have and what were their outfits like?
I had 8 bridesmaids altogether. 6 of my best friends from high school, my best friend from University and my now sister-in-law. They wore Tiffany blue chiffon maxi dresses with embellishments on the bodice and shoulders.
So did you have a theme for the wedding?
There was an elegant Disney theme throughout the whole wedding, with table names and decorations and also Tiffany blue accents in order to match the bridesmaid’s dresses.
Tell us about the reception – what were the speeches like?
My dad’s speech was quite short but to the point. There were lots of Disney references in it however, it did get quite emotional. Chris’s speech was brilliant, at the end, he presented me with a “gift that would mean we could move on forward together as one”. It was an Everton shirt with “Mrs Quinn” printed on the back, and I am a Liverpool fan!!
Everyone was in hysterics and it was a great way to finish his speech. It was also very emotional when he spoke about me and our life together. Mark , our best man, gave a great speech, it was funny, touching and just brilliant.
The Royal Hall is a huge space to decorate for your reception – how did you go about it?
From the ceiling of the venue hung dozens of strings of fairy lights to give a magical, Disney style effect to the room. The centrepieces for the tables were either crystal hanging chandeliers or silver candelabras.
The chairs were decorated with Tiffany blue sashes and on the top table was a bell jar with a red rose inside, resembling the one from Beauty and the Beast. Our favours were Tiffany blue cake pops and mini cupcakes in a Tiffany blue box wrapped in white ribbon
Tell us about your cake…
Our cake was 4 tiers of different flavour sponges with cascading Tiffany blue roses coming down the side and a bride and groom Mickey and Minnie on the top.
How did you entertain your guests?
We had 4tissimo string quartet at the church and also at our drinks reception. then in the evening, we had Retrospect, a 12 piece swing style band, and our DJ was Chris Headley from Matt Fletcher Entertainment.
We also hired a photo booth which was great fun!
Tell us about the first dance – what song did you chose and why?
We chose High by the Lighthouse Family. It has always been a song of ours since we first met and so couldn’t have thought of a more appropriate one for our wedding.
Did you go on honeymoon?
Yes, we went Constance Moofushi Resort in the Maldives for 11 nights and then the Atlantis in Dubai for 5 nights.
What are your three most memorable moments from the day?
1. My dad seeing me for the first time in my wedding dress.
2. Chris’ reaction to seeing me for the first time.
3. When all 180 guests joined us after the first verse of our first dance, absolutely amazing and overwhelming moment.
What are your top tips?
* Advice for the bride… enjoy every moment and do not stress out, everyone you have employed to do something will do their job so leave them to it!
* Advice for the groom… if you don’t want to cry, don’t turn around whilst your bride is walking down the aisle!
* Top budgeting tip… look on Pinterest for ideas and see what you can do yourself and what you will need other people for.
* Top makeup tip… Always have a trial first to make sure you are completely happy with how you will look on your big day. I found the natural style suited me best, just to enhance features.
* Top planning tip… do things in little stages, once all the big things are booked you can take your time over the little details.
* On the big day, don’t forget to… take in as much as you can. Step back with your husband/wife and just look around at all the people who have come to celebrate your big day, it is quite overwhelming when you do
If we could do it all again we would do it exactly the same, there is not one thing I would have changed about the wedding day or the lead up to it.
