The only thing more romantic than an Isle of Man wedding is a Valentine’s Day wedding on the Isle of Man! Not only is getting married on February 14th possibly the most dreamy way to celebrate your love and commitment, it means there is absolutely no excuse for your other half to forget your anniversary!
If you are planning a Valentine’s Day wedding you are in great company. Here are five celebrity couples who either got engaged or married on the same day.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter, 2015
Cumberbitch hearts around the world shattered on February 14th 2015 when Sherlock actor Cumberbatch married his theatre director wife a scant three months after announcing their engagement. This was no whirlwind romance though, as they had been friends for more than 15 years. They now have a son, Christopher.
Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, 2009
Ford and Flockhart had been dating for seven years when the Indiana Jones and Star Wars actor proposed on Valentine’s Day in 2009. Even so, a few eyebrows were raised at the 23 year age gap. The couple, who married in 2010, have now been together 14 years. Let’s hope this marriage, Ford’s third, sticks. His divorce from his second wife cost him a rumoured £70 million… ouch!
Sharon Stone and Phil Bronstein, 1998
Guests who thought they were going to Stone’s house for a swanky party were surprised to find they were actually there to watch the actress and her newspaper editor beau tie the knot. Stone went one up on having a Vera Wang wedding dress (a must for any self respecting celeb bride in the late 1990s) by having the designer’s daughters as flower girls.
Stephanie Germanotta and Taylor Kinney, 2015
Stephanie Germanotta – better known by her stage name of Lady Gaga – created a tsunami of envy around the world when she revealed her engagement ring on Instagram on Valentine’s Day 2015. If the stunning heart shaped diamond is a sign of things to come, we can’t wait to see their wedding photos! Kinney jokingly proposed with a candy ring-pop, before swapping the sweetie for the real deal when Gaga said “yes”.
Christina Aguilera and Matt Rutler, 2014
While Lady Gaga was busy getting engaged, soul-singer Aguilera was celebrating her first year engagement-versary to Matt Rutler, a film production assistant, whome she met on the set of Burlesque in 2010. The couple have said they are “in no rush to get married”, and have one child together.
Whether you’re getting married, engaged, or simply enjoying a day off together, take time this Sunday to enjoy just being in love.
