Are you ready to get your socks blown off? Bianca & Ciaran were married in April and their wedding was – in the words of the Bride – Oh My Gosh! With two wedding dresses, ten Bridesmaids, a seven tier cake, a photographer flown in from San Francisco and a massive reception in the Villa Marina Royal Hall, this is one wedding that I would describe as epic!
My Manx Wedding caught up with Bianca to find out more about their amazing wedding:
It all started with a romantic proposal on Christmas Eve 2012. Ciaran had organised a surprise lunch at The Abbey, so I arrived and sat down and ate our lovely meal wondering what was going on!! We left there and were heading home to our annual Christmas Eve drinks but we ended up taking a slight detour to Glen Maye. Down at the waterfall, Ciaran and a few friends had been busy decorating the area with tea lights and a huge sign made from MDF and fairy lights on the bottom bridge which shone ‘will you marry me?’ Of course I said yes!
Their ceremony was at King William’s College Chapel, which was where Bianca had gone to school and with their huge guest list of 500, the Royal Hall at The Villa Marina was the only place big enough to hold the reception!
The woodland fairytale theme that ran throughout the day was inspired by Ciaran’s romantic proposal and the couples love of the outdoors.
We were so lucky to have our beautiful wedding rings made by an amazing designer in Scotland called Malcolm Appleby – they are both an absolute work of art and we love them so much!
Both of Bianca’s dresses were by Pronovia’s at The Bridal House in Ramsey, where she also found the gowns for her 10 Bridesmaids. Her shoes were Benjamin Adams, also from The Bridal House and she found her jewellery from Charles Alexander.
Ciaran and his groomsmen all wore kilts of the Manx hunting tartan.
We started off in the church with a lovely string quartet that played whilst we were signing the register, then when we left the church we all hopped on a steam train to Douglas where there was a brass band playing on the platform.
Finally to end the night we had the brilliant Mr K from the UK over to play to all of our guests who danced the night away.
We made our own favours which were slate heart coasters that I had got off eBay and we wrote the guests names on in chalk pen – they were great as they acted as place settings and favours in one!
We also had homemade Sloe Gin in small bottles for people to take home with them with a printed date and ‘Ciaran & Bianca’ sticker. Cannell Print did all of our stationery – David was brilliant, he couldn’t of done any more for us!
Everything about the whole day was amazing from the train to Douglas to all of the entertainment. Hiring Sarah from Taylor Made Events to co-ordinate everything and dress the Royal Hall in the Villa just made everything so easy!
My flowers were incredible! Heidi and the team from The Flower Studio were out of this world – she delivered on so many levels! The two main things I wanted with the flowers was lots of them and big arrangements and that’s what I got!
Our cake was huge!! It stood a mere 6 feet 8 inches and with 7 tiers it was definitely a show stopper! It arrived from Slatterys in the UK, delivered to the Isle of Man by my lovely grandparents.
Walking down the aisle, I was so excited but also totally overwhelmed, it was so romantic. The funniest part of the day was Ciaran saying his vows – a bit of a silly thing but made everyone laugh! I loved every second of the day, but the sparkler send off at the end was pretty special.
Bianca’s Top Tips!
I didn’t really get stressed out to be honest – I had the attitude if its not already done, it’s not getting done! My best piece of advice though is to be organised and don’t leave anything to the last minute.
