Some people love planning their weddings; writing to-do lists, matching swatches of fabric and co-ordinating suppliers… other couples either find this far too stressful or just simply don’t have the time, and that is where Mrs Q steps in….
I am Emma Quirk, proprietor of Mrs.Q Event Planning & Virtual Assistance.
I offer event planning, consultation and training services to Isle of Man Brides-to-be and anyone involved in events. As well as private event planning I am the Events Coordinator for Manx Litfest
In addition to Event Planning services I also offer small business support in marketing, social media training and PA services.
How long have you been in the wedding industry?
I have been involved in wedding and events held on the Isle of Man for the past 6 years. Including large marquee weddings and smaller private ceremonies. I have also been involved in organising fundraising events from summer fayres to masquerade ball and open days.
Who or what are your influences?
My brides and grooms are completely the influence in my work. I share their passion and help to make their dreams a reality.
What is the best thing about your job?
I love event planning. There is nothing like the feeling of knowing that the day has gone just how the Bride and Groom wanted, and knowing that I was a small part of that. I love getting to know a new couple and learning about their love story. Every wedding in completely unique and brings its own challenges and rewards.
What is your favourite product/design/area of your business?
My favourite area of a wedding is the reception room design. Working with local florists and designers to create a room that reflects the happy couple is so rewarding. I love working with local companies to set-up a reception room before revealing the completed room to a bride and groom and their guests after the ceremony. Simple things like place cards can give the room a feelings elegance. This is when the months of planning come together.
Have any weddings stood out for you? if so, what made them special?
Over the summer I was honoured to be able to help my niece, Gemma, with her wedding to childhood sweetheart Dario Parlato. This wedding was so special because not only was I able to help my beautiful Niece but it involved both Manx and Italian influences.
Prior to the wedding I was able to sit with Gemma and run through her wedding day plans, locating areas that might need assistance. Including transporting guests from the church to the reception area, timings for photographs and jobs for the Bridesmaids/ Ushers.
The night before the wedding room we spent the evening at King Edwards Bay Club house assisting Lucy from Fancy That. Lucy provided, and set-up, beautifully elegant Calla Lilies in tall vases, butterfly name cards elegantly which were placed on the wine glasses, and chair covers and ties.
On the day of the wedding I privileged to be able to assist Gemma in her preparation for the wedding and assist with the running of the day. Gemma and Dario looked beautiful and happy on their wedding day, and I was honoured to have been able to assist with ensure the day ran smoothly.
One of my favourite Italian customs learnt from Gemma and Darios wedding was the Bride and Groom giving gifts to families attending the wedding. They took their time, walking around the room and personally handing a gift to each family and thanking them for attending. Such a lovely tradition.
My favourite moment of the day (other than hearing their vows!), was helping Gemma into her dress.
What is the best piece of advice you could give to a couple when choosing a supplier for their wedding?
Always ensure that your suppliers understand your needs and connects with you in a personable way. When meeting with potential suppliers aim for a personable connection as these are people who are going to help ensure your big day goes exactly as you wish. When choosing a supplier always try to meet with a few different ones to get a feel for what they can offer. Finally, be open to new ideas.
